What is Delphi PDF Print E-mail

Delphi is an object-oriented, visual programming environment to develop 32-bit and Microst .NET applications for desktop and Internet deployment.

Visual Basic had its roots in the BASIC language in 1963, a simple computer language considered an easy step for students to learn before more powerful languages.

Delphi's roots fall back to the PASCAL language, which came out in 1970 but had its roots in ALGOL which was also in the early 60's.  PASCAL became widely accepted as a teaching language at the university level and was the official language of AP exams until 1999.

Borland, in its early days, released a fast, powerful and inexpensive compiler called Turbo Pascal that was based on a compiler designed by Anders Hejlsberg. Later on, Hejlsberg beefed up Turbo Pascal to support object-oriented design and added a rapid visual environment to create what would be called Delphi 1.

As a sidenote, Hejlsberg later left Borland for Microsoft and later became the "father" of the C# language which share more coding designs and concepts closer the Delphi than C++ and is designed primarily for the .NET platform.

Delphi 8 became Borland's first offering of providing Delphi's language structure for .NET development and since then has provided Delphi for both native and .NET platforms.
